From the Sea to Santiago - 55 days later
Thank you to the crew of Wind Surf
Fifty-five days have passed since we stepped off Wind Surf in Cádiz, and not a day goes by that we don’t think back with gratitude and fondness. The journey from Sint Maarten across the Atlantic was more than a simple voyage - it was a passage to a new adventure we hadn’t yet fully imagined. The warmth of the crew, the quiet moments at sea, the laughter shared with fellow travellers, and the steady grace of the ship herself made it an unforgettable crossing. Wind Surf was not only a vessel but a companion, carrying us safely and beautifully across the ocean to the shores of Spain.
After 14 glorious days crossing the ocean on the sailing ship Wind Surf, we made landfall not in Lisbon, Portugal as expected, but rather in Cadiz, Spain. Taking this as a sign of things meant to be, we began walking north, beginning an extraordinary adventure in its own right.
What started when we boarded Wind Surf in Sint Maarten on the far side of the Atlantic Ocean became a pilgrimage spanning more than 1,200 km: along the Via Augusta from Cádiz to Seville, continuing northward on the Via de la Plata to Granja de la Moreruela, then on the Camino Sanabrés to Santiago de Compostela, and finally onward along the Camino Finisterre to Muxía and Fisterra at the "end of the world."
We walked along Roman roads, down dusty forest pathways, and down ancient pilgrim trails.
Each step of that journey was rooted in the crossing that brought us there, and for that we will always be grateful. Thank you to Wind Surf and her crew - for your care, your spirit, and for helping us begin a pilgrimage that will stay with us for the rest of our lives.
Ultreia y muchos gracias!
